We use a very old technique in which we take sash and case windows, and strip them of their original paint. And use linseed oil paint. Linseed oil paint lasts a lifetime. The oils soak into the wood and let it breathe. Modern oil-based paints sit on the surface of the wood and smother it not allowing it to flex or let moisture escape from the wood hence why these paints flake and blister. Linseed oil does neither of those. It can easily last 15 years without ever touching it. The longer the oil is on the wood the flatter it gets. Some clients like this. Others who like the original look simply have to put a coat of linseed oil not paint on which takes minutes and it is back looking new again.
